britt & joe

Last week Tay and I met up with Britt and Joe to do a mini session before their wedding in a couple weeks.  We made it short as it was just a chance for us to get comfortable shooting together in preparation for their big day.  It had been raining on and off all day when we arrived at Homestead Park in Gig Harbor.  This continued throughout the shoot with quick sun breaks happening as well.  The combination of rain and sun made for some amazingly striking moments that seemed to just fall into place for us.  I became completely convinced that I love shooting in the rain.  I can’t wait for their wedding this weekend, rain or shine.

The last two photos were taken just after our shoot when Britt and Joe had left.  I forgot a stepladder down where we were taking photos and got stuck in an absolute downpour or rain and hail in the middle of a field.  Luckily I had a huge golf umbrella with me so I snapped a few photos.  After that we left and found the road to my house covered in branches and blocked with fallen trees and power lines in several directions.  Completely confused we turned around to take the long way around only to find that the roads were clear everywhere else.  I remarked (mostly jokingly) that a tornado must have torn through the area.  The next day we found out that that’s exactly what happened!  Britt and Joe were in the middle of it since they left before us.  Unbelievable.

I love these. I want to come with you on a shoot sometime. To improve my photo skills too

I love these, and reading the story that includes the tornado. That one photo, the next to last, must show the edge of the tornado cloud.
I love the one with the rainbow too, for itself and for the way it shows the variability of the weather that afternoon.
I don’t know if they dressed for the setting, but the colors they are wearing are perfect, just enough contrast, but in harmony with the browns and grays of the winter landscape.
So many nice shots. As always.
